Centers of Excellence & Laboratories

It has been the mission of BIT to open several centers of research excellence in collaboration with US universities and Indian Institutions in the area of emerging technology. Additionally, faculty and student exchanges between BIT and US universities are in active consideration now.

Centers of IT & Telecommunication

IT & Telecom Center has been established by Seashore Group of Companies with more than 20 engineers working there. BIT students avail summer and winter short term training through this center regularly. Faculty members and visiting scientists collaborate with the center for R&D activities.

Bhubaneswar Public Health Center

The PHC is planning to hold health-worker training programs related to child and adult health that silently affect millions in rural and tribal areas of Odisha. Health workers are to be trained using Information Technology remotely and connect patient’s health status with Apollo Diagnostic Center at Cuttack for fast diagnosis by experts and further follow up.

A Public Health Certificate Program is also under way in collaboration with Texas A&M University lead by Prof. Ranjita Mishra.

Disaster Management Center

Odisha is well known as one of the most disaster prone state in India. It has similar geographical situation as Texas in USA. The DMC aims at providing training and support of using new approaches to face future disasters as currently adopted in USA. Texas A&M University is well known for its work in the areas of DM in USA. BIT promoters are exploring collaboration with TAMU and model the DMC that is most suitable for Odisha. The Government of Odisha is going to be a partner in this endeavor.

 Nano Technology Center

The deployment of nanotechnology is going to affect all aspects of our life in variety of ways. There is a shortage of trained manpower in India. The NC has been founded with aims to provide appropriate activities and directions to proliferate Nanotechnology education and training in India. The team consists of the following members:

Dr. Sarbeswar Sahoo, Seagate Inc, USA

Dr. Durga Misra, New Jersey Institute of Technology, USA

Dr. Debjyoti Mukhopadhyya, Texas A&M University, USA

 Programmable Systems on Chip Lab

The deployment of Programmable System on Chip (PSoC) Lab has been set up in collaboration with Cypress Semiconductor, USA. Cypress is the inventor of this embedded system on chip device with applications in control, communication and embedded systems. PSoC Lab privides hands on training to students for their class projects and enhance their job potential around the globe.

Graduate Programs

  • In collaboration with SEER Akademi & Synopsys US, BIT is the regional center in Odisha to run M.Tech program in Microelectronics/VLSI.
  • The M. Tech programs in many of the existing disciplines will be offered as soon as possible.
  • BIT would run research programs leading to MS and Ph.D. in the earliest opportunity.
  • Sponsored research with industry patronage will be taken up. The personal expertise of the trustees in the academic and corporate IT sectors would be helpful. Addition of research activities would add to revenue generation from sponsored research. The promoters have contacted various industries to support proposed academic programs at BIT by setting up state of the arts laboratories, donating equipment or providing funds for endowments.

During Junior and Senior Years at BIT

Advanced courses and specialized short courses are periodically offered by the faculty from reputed universities in USA. Lectures will also be periodically offered via web conferencing. This will help the students gain knowledge on the latest developments in their areas of study.

There will be opportunities for final year students to do research projects advised by Professors  at US universities. Interested students will also have opportunity to do projects and write research papers.

The methodology at BIT is hands-on learning. Besides traditional methods like lectures, exercises, assignments and term papers, there will be emphasis on personality and soft skill developments and state-of-art projects with inputs from faculties in US. The academic performance evaluation system for students is an open one consistent with BPUT guidelines.
